Machine Learning in VFX Voice

VES Awards 2021
We are delighted to have taken home a fantastic total of five VES Awards at the 2021 ceremony last night for our recent work across both film and television.

The Midnight Sky in IndieWire
Framestore VFX Supervisor Graham Page and Animation Supervisor Max Solomon sat down with IndieWire to discuss the Oscar-nominated VFX work of George Clooney's post-apocalyptic drama The Midnight Sky.
When creating the 'Ballet of Blood' sequence which features an injured astronaut inside an airlock, the team were presented with a unique challenge. With so much CG blood in the scene, it made sense to replace much of the environment, including the other characters, which were all added back in by hand.

British Arrows Wins 2021
We are absolutely thrilled that we took home two British Arrows Awards from the 2020 awards ceremony - which took place virtually, of course.
First up our CG team won a Silver Craft Award for CGI for their stunning work on the fully-CG nature-inspired film 'Hummingbird' for drinks brand Purdey's. The award went to Jules Janaud, Matthew Thomas and Philip Child.

Academy Award Nominations 2021
Framestore is proud to be nominated for the Best Visual Effects’ Academy Award for its work on The Midnight Sky.
Framestore VFX Supervisor Chris Lawrence and Animation Supervisor Max Solomon join Production VFX Supervisor Matt Kasmir and Special Effects Supervisor Dave Watkins on the ticket for this year’s VFX Oscar.

VFX Post-Covid in CR
Lottie Cooper, Managing Director for advertising and immersive spoke to Creative Review this week to talk about how a creative studio like Framestore moved to a working from home set up and how she thinks a post-covid world will impact the industry.
Talking in the article 'How the VFX industry will thrive post-Covid', Lottie spoke about the impact of the last year, explaining “our productivity didn’t dip much, apart from the time it took to get crew online. We were really pleased at the number of projects we delivered remotely to schedule.”
