F1
Directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Apple Original Films and Jerry Bruckheimer, F1 is a cinematic tribute to the speed, precision and intensity of Formula 1 racing. But more than a film about speed, it’s a film that feels fast. Seamlessly blending live-action footage shot during Grand Prix weekends with high-fidelity CG, F1 demanded invisible, yet indispensable, visual effects.
Framestore joined early as a core creative and technical partner, embedding Production VFX Supervisor Ryan Tudhope, returning to collaborate with Kosinski, in the filmmaking process from prep to final delivery. Having previously partnered on Top Gun: Maverick, Tudhope understood Kosinski’s expectation clearly: viewers must feel speed, not pixels.
With VFX Supervisors Rob Harrington and Nicolas Chevallier leading global teams, Framestore delivered a masterclass in invisible VFX: crafting hyper-accurate CG replicas of Formula 1 cars, precisely manipulating real-world racing footage, and blending diverse visual sources into a seamless whole. Early previs, crafted by the FPS team led by Francisco Pacheco Beltran, helped shape the film’s most complex and dangerous stunt sequences, laying the groundwork for a project where VFX became a toolkit for Kosinski to shape race sequences
