The Art of VFX dive deep into How to Train Your Dragon
Production VFX Supervisor Christian Mänz and Production Animation Supervisor Glen McIntosh had an in-depth chat with Art of VFX about How to Train Your Dragon. Find out about the the team's early visdev, concept and previs work, how Christian used the woodlands near his home for early inspiration, and what it was like to work so closely with director Dean DeBlois.
Led by Production VFX Supervisor Christian Manz, our global team provided concept art, visdev, previs, techvis, postvis, animation and final VFX, helping bring dragons like Toothless, The Red Death, Monstrous Nightmare and Deadly Nadder to life in a way critics are describing as “lavish” and “the gold-star example of how to do a live-action remake right.”
From crafting those wonderful I’m-not-crying-you’re-crying moments between Toothless and Hiccup to the white-knuckle flight sequences, action-packed arena scenes and the stunning, kaiju-sized Red Death, our team brought finesse and filmmaking FIRE to this epic fantasy adventure.
