A Practical Approach to Virtual Filmmaking

Join Realtime Supervisor Michael Zaman and Virtual Production Supervisor Connor Ling for an exclusive webinar, A Practical Approach to Virtual Filmmaking. Drawing from their year-long residency on set for Project Hail Mary, the duo will detail how the FPS team integrated Previs, Techvis, and On-Set Visualization into a single interactive pipeline to bridge the gap between early concepts and the physical shoot.

Attendees will learn how the team utilized Unreal Engine to engineer adaptable virtual sets that solved complex dual-gravity layouts, and how they utilised virtual production and real-time workflows, to enable the creatives full control over the virtual scene, as if they were there shooting it already. Discover how this highly flexible, cross-departmental methodology empowers directors and cinematographers to make critical creative decisions months before principal photography begins.

This FPS workflow was achieved in close collaboration on set with the production team, VFX Supervisors Paul Lambert and Mag Sarnowska,  DOP Greig Fraser, VFX Producer Barrie Hemsley and Framestore VFX Supervisor Stuart Penn. Their combined efforts established a seamless foundation for Framestore's final visual effects, led by Stuart, alongside VFX Supervisor Bob Winter and Senior Animation Director Arslan Elver.
