Invasion Season 3

Invasion Season 3 delivers the scale and stakes that have defined the acclaimed Apple TV series, with our New York team, led by VFX Supervisor Thomas Montminy-Brodeur, crafting a wide range of visual effects that added emotional depth to intimate alien encounters and intensity to large-scale battle scenes.

For the third season, our artists delivered a full suite of VFX including CG portal and vehicle work, 2D and 3D blood FX, muzzle flashes, bullet impacts, visor and infrared effects, environmental extensions, and a signature cymatic grass pattern to enhance both alien encounters and battle sequences across the sweeping third season. A key focus was helping realize the mysterious alien entity, making its presence feel grounded in the world while maintaining a dreamlike, otherworldly tone. To achieve this, we developed cymatic grass patterns that visually reacted to the entity’s presence and added arm-like tendrils that reached out toward the protagonist, symbolizing a deeper connection.

This season builds on work from the second season, where the alien entity was originally created by our team in London. While we utilized aspects of the original asset, the new season’s drastically different environment and emotional tone required significant reimagining of the entity’s look and behavior. Our team approached this carefully, ensuring continuity while delivering something fresh that aligned with the overall direction of season 3.

Our R&D phase focused on rebuilding and refining the entity FX, including portal views, volumetrics, and interaction with the environment. We adopted agile workflows, using a combination of CG and 2D solutions to rapidly respond to evolving creative needs.

On collaborating with our longtime clients, VFX Supervisor Thomas Montminy-Brodeur shares that “It’s always a pleasure to team up with Show VFX Supervisor Erik Henry and Show VFX Producer Matt Robken. Having worked together for many years, it's always great to discover innovative creative approaches to new challenges.”
