The series written and directed by Bafta award-winning filmmaker Ben Chanan explores the world of fake news and the extraordinary capabilities of intelligence services in a ‘post-truth’ era. It follows Callum Turner as Shaun Emery, a man who’s being investigated by DI Rachel Carey (Holliday Grainger) after supposedly damning CCTV footage of him comes to light.

The range of Framestore’s work included screen composition, motion graphics, VFX-enhanced stunt work and consultancy during production. The creative studio worked with the production team on the series’ key narrative points that involve technology to make sure the tools and techniques used in the show were presented in the most realistic and plausible way possible.

Framestore’s role was to sell the show’s use of technology from start to finish. This resulted in the delivery of approximately 200 shots and hours on set advising the production team of the kinds of image-distortion technology that takes centre stage.

As CCTV features heavily throughout the series, Framestore was responsible for replacing screens and augmenting footage to heighten the themes of distrust in what’s being presented on screen. Framestore also designed and animated several different motion graphics for the show’s on-screen technology.

The series features a number of big action set pieces which Framestore also worked on, creating and adding several 2D and CG elements including a crowd and even a human appendage. The television team helped to finesse the show's impressive live action stunt work and composited actors and elements from several takes into final shots.

‘For the past year or so, the television team at Framestore has been working on a fairly big slate of programming and we’re now seeing lots of the fruits of this labour with important series like The Capture coming out,’ said Michelle Martin, Head of Television at Framestore.

Partnering with NBCUniversal, the BBC and Heyday Television on this production shows the appetite to create engaging and timely programming and how technology can be an important part of that process.
