VES Awards 2021

We are delighted to have taken home a fantastic total of five VES Awards at the 2021 ceremony last night for our recent work across both film and television.

Netflix's The Midnight Sky earned us the accolades of both Outstanding Model in a Photoreal or Animated Project and Outstanding Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature. Our sci-fi dream team delivered a visually stunning feature, from the CG heavy 'Space Walk' sequence to the widely acclaimed 'Ballet of Blood' scene, balancing science and fiction on a knife edge. Director George Clooney was thrilled with the work, commenting “We had to shoot a pregnant astronaut floating in space! Framestore did a brilliant job with all of it."

The opening episode for the fourth season of The Crown, 'Gold Stick', was awarded Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Photoreal Episode. Our VFX team had their work cut out for them with a number of digital set extensions or replacements for the iconic Buckingham Palace exterior, as well as replacing the face of an equestrian athlete who stood in for Erin Doherty (Princess Anne). For several shots in which Anne is taking part in a show jumping competition, the team employed a deep fake technique to achieve the subtle, yet entirely unnoticeable face replacement.

Netflix's action-packed superhero feature Project Power won us both Outstanding Effects Simulations in a Photoreal Feature and Outstanding Compositing in a Feature. A super-human achievement for our VFX artists, who worked closely with directors Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost to unlock each character’s eye-popping powers, as well as high-octane action sequences, and ambitious CG set builds.
