Raining Cars is the final spot of a three part campaign for Hertz. The spot illustrates that Hertz can pick you up from various environments and situations, rain or shine. Framestore created a previz prior to the shoot working closely with Michael Haussman which informed the practical set up as well as VFX requirements.
The foreground cars were placed on a 10ft scissor rig and dropped for realistic ground impact. These live action cars were seamlessly joined with a CG car where the car was flying into frame from a distance. The style of animation was kept fun yet pertaining to realism, always making sure to apply the laws of gravity. CG cars were used for the background to fill in areas that felt sparse. Raul Ortego, senior Flame artist finessed multiple elements to make the spot beautiful and seamless. Roads were cleaned up, talent was morphed, plenty of rig removal and final grading in Flame was applied to evoke specific atmosphere throughout the spot. The result is a well balanced spot using both live action and VFX in the most efficient way.
