Framestore have worked with Red Bee Media on a promo for BBC three featuring the channel's stars. On the surface it doesn't look like it needed lot of post production, but if you consider that the celebrities never appeared all on set together at the same time you get an idea of what Framestore has achieved.
The promo was shot in one day at Black Island studios with Framestore's Senior Smoke Artist Paul O'Brien on set to supervise. It was completed it in an incredible six day schedule as it needed to be on air the day after delivery with the edit only being locked down two days prior. The shoot was very tricky to schedule around the appearance of the artists, for instance Russell Kane was only on set for 10 minutes before rushing off to do his show in Manchester.
The lift looks as small and boxy as any other but was actually built with walls that could be raised and lowered to enable the camera to circle freely. This relied on some careful choreography and when it failed there was a lot of cleaning up to remove walls coming up too late or not being in place in time.
