The Argos aliens are back in Framestore's latest spot with CHI & Partners and Smuggler, with the extra-terrestrial family brought to life thanks to the same incredibly believable eyes that achieved a sense of realism not often seen with puppets, first in Argos’ Christmas 2011 spot Aliens and then Amazing Stuff earlier this year.
Not a Toy sees the extra terrestrial puppets making use of the Argos Toy Exchange, which donates people's old toys to children’s charity Barnardo’s in exchange for a voucher towards new ones, the only thing is the aliens have a completely different idea of what makes a good toy.
All the puppet’s eyes were added later in Flame, giving each family member a bit of character and individuality. Framestore also had to remove any trace of the green-suited puppeteers and the rods and wires they used to control the aliens. The spot was graded in-house at Framestore by Dave Ludlam.
