Framestore’s Visual Development Department has imagined a series of planetscapes for sci-fi website io9 that, after being projected on the walls of the planetarium at the American Natural History Museum in New York, will be used in a collaborative storytelling with io9’s 4.5 million readers.

Starting in August, io9’s readers will be able to suggest their own story ideas based on Framestore’s original images, Visual Development will then respond to their suggestions by creating new artwork to follow the story.

Advertising Age have spoken to io9 editor-in-chief, Annalee Newitz, about the collaboration, and she has high hopes for the project, saying: “Our fantasy is that we would get a story or images that could be turned into a movie."
