VFX Framestore
Framestore is proud to now be part of Doctor Who history through creating the title sequence for the 2010 series. In true Doctor Who fashion, Framestore had to battle against the physics of time to make the sequence in a record-breaking three weeks from brief through to final delivery. The schedule was so tight that only a handful of BBC execs and Framestore insiders saw the sequence before it aired on Easter Saturday.
The 2010 opener sees the Tardis spin through a time of vortex of storm clouds and a tunnel of fire and is updated with a more fairy tale look, akin to the Harry Potter films. Framestore's VFX supervisor, Christian Manz (who fortunately has plenty of experience in Harry Potter effects), wrote the treatment, directed and supervised the project. He drew on all his mighty experience and Doctor-like powers to deliver the production's effects of fire, clouds, smoke and lightening on time and to a level that would stand up to close scrutiny and repeat viewing. Christian even spent his nights designing a whole new font for the titles. Framestore's Iceland team also lent several animating hands to the London 3D and 2D artists to help turn everything around in time.
