Continuing our collaboration with Warp Films and Director Richard Ayoade, we recently completed work on this Yeah Yeah Yeahs promo for the track Heads Will Roll, featuring a werewolf who dances for, then slays, his victims.
All the 'horror' was stylised, with red glitter substituting the blood and guts, an effect that made for a beautiful and interesting film. All shot in one day in Shunt (under London Bridge), Richard had the werewolf strutting, somersaulting dancing and killing! The band feature heavily in the promo, performing thoroughout, with the hero end tracking shot revealing their dismembered, glittery bodies on the dance floor, with Karen O's decapitated head continuing to sing to the end of the track.
From a VFX point of view, this shot was the trickiest, with other work including lighting up the keys on the piano, adding glowing eyes and teeth to our wereworlf as well as some glitter enhancement in places, for which VFX Artist Paul O'Brien shot some glitter elements against black - on a tiny makeshift stage in the corner of his Smoke suite! Paul did the majority of the VFX work, with help from Alix Smith, both working in Smoke.
The grade was a hugely important part of giving the film is magnificent look, and this was done by Colourist Simon Bourne in Spirit. Our production assistant on this project was Magdalena Przezdziecka, and it was produced by Executive Producer Simon Whalley.
