Framestore has made Barcelona stretch around the world for Publicis' new Malibu spot. Directed by Stink's Dave Meyers, the ad sees two Caribbean radio DJs spreading their 'Maliboom Boom' dance around the world with the help of their no.1 girlie, Shirley. The dance spreads internationally, captivating everyone from Eskimos to a deep sea diver. The shoot took place in Barcelona so give away landmarks like Gaudi's Familia Sagrada had to be painted out in post. The Eskimo scene was created by shooting the actors on bluescreen with a little snow at their feet and using several hi-res stills to create an icescape. However, the 'money shot' was the diver's underwater scene. The actor was shot in a tank but Framestore's Pedro Sabrosa had to create a deep sea effect with a rocky foreground and shafts of light. Jelly fish were taken from stock footage, multiplied and re-positioned to add an extra layer of authenticity. The grade was crafted by Stefan Perry.
