Framestore has helped Fallon reinvent Cadburys Flake with a breathtaking new commercial that eschews the 50 year old 'Flake Girl' idea in favour of visually encapsulating the chocolate's beauty and delicacy. Directed by Home Corp's Baillie Walsh, the ad sees a striking abstract form undulate like a magical underwater creature. But said 'form' turns out to be Russian model Yulia Lobova wearing a 200 metre-long yellow dress by couture designer Antony Price.
Yulia was suspended on a slowly rotating harness and shot against a black background on 35mm film at 150 fps as a fan created dramatic movement in her dress and hair. Framestore's compositing team spent 3 weeks carefully painting out the harness and further darkening the background. They also crafted finishing touches like lens flairs and reworked the purple powder to create a truly sumptuous piece of art. The Flake wrapper was created in CGI using cloth simulation so the pack shot could continue the fabric theme by draping over the real Flake.
