Framestore has helped RKCR Y&R relaunch the BBC iPlayer with Red Bee Media director Mario Zozin by creating a portal that acts as the virtual entrance to the iPlayer's 'next level'. The spot sees people's everyday lives interrupted by the ethereal presence of an intriguing purple light. These people soon discover that the light takes them to the iPlayer's portal whereupon the brave then dive in.

Framestore's brief was to create the portal as an eerie VFX. 2D supervisor, Tim Osbourne, supervised the shoot using in-camera props as a mock-up for the portal. The portal VFX required several evolutions of design, provided by Flame Op Jude Roberts, until its look was reworked to perfection. The final solution was to build the basic shape in 3D and then add glows, textures and lighting as a surface layer. Stefan Perry's grade was crucial in telling the story of the mysterious purple light. He graded in Spirit and crafted a final DCP to match the portal's final colour and light.
